Creating a Safety Culture

The term, “Safety culture” gets tossed around all the time, but what does it really mean, how is it created and how is it kept alive? In this session, I will address these questions, focusing on the role of leaders all levels in defining, building and sustaining a culture that values safety.

Presented by Steve Scott

Steve Scott

Steve Scott spent thirty years working for Alcoa, a global mining and metals company.  He began his career as an hourly production worker at an aluminum smelter, before transitioning to management.  Following the closure of that plant, Steve worked in various continuous improvement roles, where he got involved in Alcoa’s Human Organizational Performance (HOP) initiative.  As the focus on HOP increased, Steve moved to the corporate safety organization, ultimately achieving the role of Director of Human Performance for the corporation.  Since retiring in 2019, Steve has worked as a consultant, helping organizations navigate the HOP journey, with the goal of reducing serious injuries and fatalities while improving overall business performance.
