Chris Pistorius accepts his award from AIST President, Barry Schneider of Steel Dynamics Inc.

Associate Department Head and POSCO Professor, Chris Pistorius has been named as a 2024 Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) Distinguished Member and Fellow for his significant contributions to the technical advancement of corrosion research, ironmaking and clean steel processing. 

This award, which was conferred at the AISTech conference in Columbus, Ohio in May, was established in 1975 to recognize an AIST member who has attained eminent distinction in advancing the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel, and has performed meritorious service to the Association.

Pistorius has served as editor for AIST Transactions, a role through which he worked to increase the volume of peer-reviewed papers and was instrumental to the launch of the AIST Transactions of Iron & Steel Research journal. Through his participation in numerous AIST Technology Committees and technical programming, Pistorius has shared his expertise in iron and steel research and advanced materials processing with colleagues from around the world. 

Lauren Burnham, MS’14, who was advised by Pistorius during her time as a student and now works as a Melting and Casting Supervisor at Nucor Steel Decatur, nominated him for the honor. 

AIST is a non-profit organization with 16,600 members from more than 70 countries, representing all facets of the iron and steel manufacturing process and a vast network of steel knowledge and expertise.
