W.W. Mullins Professor of Materials Science and Engineering Gregory Rohrer, was recently named as an MRS (Materials Research Society) Fellow for developing pioneering experimental methods and a statistical methodology to quantify and correlate interface crystallography, energy and properties in crystalline materials.
The MRS Fellows program recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of materials science, including research, leadership, and service that have advanced the mission of the materials community world-wide. The award, which was conferred at the MRS Spring Meeting, is a lifetime recognition of distinction in the field.
Within the MRS community, its Fellows are a resource of thought-leaders that offer ideas, advice, actions, and external contact channels to benefit the organization and beyond.
“Greg’s accomplishments continue to make a remarkable impact on both our department and the greater materials research community,” said Department of Materials Science and Engineering Department Chair Professor Beth Dickey.
In addition to this honor, Rohrer has been selected to deliver the Andrew Carnegie Lecture by ASM International’s Pittsburgh Chapter. Formerly known as the American Society for Metals, ASM is an association of materials-centric engineers and scientists.
The lecture on grain boundary migration will be delivered on Thursday, May 9 at ASM Pittsburgh’s May meeting.
Rohrer, who has authored over 350 papers, has previously been recognized through numerous awards from the American Ceramic Society. Additionally, he is the coordinating editor for the Acta Materialia family of Journals.
